I now have the blue patterned in size Medium. These are a better fit, and the pattern breaks up the large solid colour of the front. They are seen by others as "festive trousers", I guess with the pattern. I hope to keep using them after the festive season, at least for January and February's winter camps and any cold evenings relaxing.
I am still awaiting refund for the Size Large that I returned.
For reference - men's size 30 in Passenger shorts fit well, so can correspond to Medium here which is comfortably loose.
