Recycled polyester is made with materials that might otherwise go to landfill. It gives what could be a single-use material another life.

Recycled polyester is made up of materials that have been used before, usually plastic bottles or fishing nets. They’re shredded and melted down into pellets, which are then reformed into workable polyester yarns. The great benefit of recycled polyester is that it uses materials that might otherwise go to landfill. It gives what could be a single-use material, another life.

When washing anything with polyester in it, be sure to use a Washing Bag. Pop your clothes in before putting them in the washing machine and the bag will catch microfibres and microplastics, preventing them from entering our rivers and oceans. It will also prolong the life of your clothes too.

Why We Use It

A staple of the outdoor space, polyester can be found listed on the labels of most high-performing fleeces, smocks, jackets, backpacks and activewear. Passenger gear is no different. Why? Because it’s lightweight, quick-drying, and super tough.

But like most plastics, virgin polyester is an output from the fossil fuel industry. It’s made from oil, which has to be extracted from the ground and refined through a super energy-intensive process. That’s why we use recycled polyester instead, because it gives us all the technical benefits of polyester, but with a lower footprint.

Where You’ll Find It

Recycled polyester is our go-to base material for smocks, insulated jackets, fleeces, backpacks, and outdoor activewear. For a little more on the material mix of our gear, you’ll find a full breakdown on each product page. Here’s a few for adventurous types.
