These look great in the pic, but I had to return them. There's no give in them; the draw-string doesn't seem to have any additional length to do its job. They also run small and are a thin fabric; I don't know how hardy they'd be.

These should have an elasticated waist and be cut in a relaxed fit, so this does sound quite odd!
