Meet The Ambassador: Rod Trevino

"Experiencing this world was high on my list, therefore I have been doing everything possible to see it and stay close to nature."

Adventure photographer, globe-trotter, van dweller. Rod Trevino does a lot of things, but one thing he doesn’t do is sit still for long. With a stacked DIY off-road setup, he’s been here, there and everywhere—framing up epic vistas and capturing it all on film. A day in his shoes wouldn’t be half bad. Your feet might ache, but it’d be well worth it for the fireside stories.

We sent over some Qs, Rod sent back some As. All in all, a job well done.

Rod Trevino, what's your story?

"My name is Rod and I am an adventure and lifestyle photographer. I believe that part of my love for the outdoors comes from being raised in Tijuana, Mexico. The outdoors was never accessible to me growing up. I always admired national geographic magazines and hoped to experience the world one day.

"As I grew older, I was able to afford my own things. Experiencing this world was high on my list, therefore I have been doing everything possible to see it and stay close to nature."

A Passenger classic and one we ask all our ambassadors—what does Escapism mean to you?

"Escapism to me, means setting my camera down and enjoying a place for what it really is. As a photographer, I forget to enjoy certain places when I'm too busy worrying about the perfect shot. When the camera is put away, I can really escape."

If we gave you a handful of pins to stick in a map of places that mean the most to you, where would they land?

"A place that is on the top of my list is Alaska. I always dreamt of experiencing it and finally did in 2017. My dog had cancer and the vet gave him a few months to live. I decided to pack my bags and drive to Alaska. After a few months and many great moments, he passed away. I was devastated but also happy that I could provide a great life to my black lab named Rango."

What’s a usual food day looking like on the road?

"I've been cooking lots of fish. I do not eat meat but I do eat fish. I like to camp next to bodies of water so I can catch my dinner. Lakes, rivers and the ocean. I believe that connecting with the outdoors also means eating what the earth provides."

What have you been listening to lately?

"I've been listening to music that I consider "Road music" which consists of older songs... Velvet Underground, Neil Young, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan and more."

And finally, any Escapism hacks & tips you’ve picked up along the way?

"For me, it is important to stay off-grid for as long as possible. I've learned many ways to make this happen - solar panels for power, Starlink for wifi, fishing for food, water filter system for filling up my tank, and a camper that can carry the rest of the things I need to keep me happy."
